Letter: Charles Auclair was a champion for veterans

Posted

At a recent Board of Directors meeting of the Veterans Association of Bristol County (VABC) the passing of Charles Auclair (October 5, 2023) was noted. Charles was a champion and friend of veterans living in the Greater Fall River area. Regardless of the veteran’s financial situation, and often times working in concert with the Veteran Service Officer of the City of Fall River, Charles would provide the veteran a dignified and honorable funeral. Many times a waiver for the fee was given.

There was a discussion at that BOD meeting about a letter to the editor being written and signed by numerous veterans giving notice of the generosity and service that Charles and the Auclair Funeral Home gave to veterans over the years; at last, disappointment, disbelief and shaking of heads ensued when I informed them that the Fall River Herald News no longer publishes letters to the editor.

The generous space and liberal guidelines that the Sakonnet Times gives to its readers to comment publicly should be appreciated and not assumed.
