Letter: Migrant caravan nothing like biblical story

To the editor:

I usually find myself in full agreement with Arlene Violet and the opinions she

expresses in her column. However, I find her comparison of the biblical journey

of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem with the current migrant caravan invasion of

our southern border to be ludicrous.

Mary and Joseph were required by royal decree to return to their home town

of Bethlehem to be counted and taxed. They planned on leaving to return to their

current home afterwards. They were not migrants as we think of them in modern

times.

The current migrant exodus is not being required to return to a home in the

United States and is certainly not planning on being identified and counted or on

paying taxes. Neither do they plan on ever returning to their home country.

Their plan is to remain here and enjoy all of the benefits of our society that citizens enjoy but at our expense. They plan on bringing the rest of their families and relatives here at an opportune time, again at our expense. They plan on burdening

our judicial, welfare, educational and medical systems, again at our expense.

They fully expect that we will accept this without comment or protest and use

their children as bargaining chips to further their cause.

So please Arlene, in future, compare apples with apples and don't use biblical

stories which are in no way relevant or comparable to the current situation.
