On behalf of Little Compton Boy Scout Troop 29, I would like to thank the local businesses who sponsored our recent dodgeball tournament.  We had a great time in the Wilbur School gym with many kids teams and two adult teams.  A team of seventh and eighth graders came out victorious. 

In my seven years with Troop 29, I have seen the boys take part in countless community events.   Annually they take part in town cleanup projects, food collection for our food pantry, replacing the flags on veterans’ gravestones throughout Tiverton and Little Compton, and a flag retirement ceremony with the American Legion.  They are always on hand for new challenges, like this year when they returned the railroad ties that had been thrown off the cliffs at Town Landing back to the top of the parking lot, using their brawn and ingenuity.  

The troop currently consists of 28 boys, some of whom are from Tiverton and Westport ranging from ages 11-17. They go on monthly campouts and usually have 100% participation in summer camp — a week at Yawgoog where they eat in the mess hall, complete merit badges, meet new friends and spend time on the lake.  Troop 29 has one of the highest percentages of boys becoming Eagle Scouts in Rhode Island. 

 I see the importance for our youth to be actively engaged in our community and am pleased that these local businesses do as well.  A big Scout thank you to -  Valcourt Heating, Country and Coastal Properties, Walkers Roadside Stand, Little Compton Fire Fighters Association, R.A. Watt Landscaping, A.J. Potter and Sons, BankNewport, Little Compton Police Union, Phil’s Propane, Sakonnet Lobster, A-1 Pizza, Montle Builders, Young Family Farm, Little Compton Real Estate , ENVY Gymnastics, Living Water, Adamsville Wine and Spirits, Coastal Roasters, EMC Technologies, FM Bodington Plumbing and Heating and COT Design. 

These generous donations help with camping equipment, merit =badges and supplies and help get the troop to summer camp.
