Portsmouth girls place 3rd in Eastern Division championship

PORTSMOUTH — The lady Patriots finished in third place among 13 teams competing in Monday’s Eastern Division outdoor track and field championship held at Portsmouth High School.

Barrington, the regular-season champion, won the meet with 168 points, followed by La Salle with 120 and Portsmouth with 80. 

The Patriots’ winning 4x800-meter relay team of Bella Hook, Maura Driscoll, Olive Allen and Nikki Merrill set a new meet record with a time of 9 minutes, 50.1 seconds.

Merrill, a junior, was also the winner of the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 10:34.89. Allen, also a junior, came in third in both the 800-meter run (2:26.64) and the 1,500 ((4:50.42)

Portsmouth junior Madison Lambert won the pole vault with a best effort of 8 feet. The Patriots’ Lauren Griffiths (7 feet) and Eleanor White (6 feet, 6 inches) took second and third place, respectively.

In the triple jump, freshman Meghan Lehane took second place with a best effort of 32 feet, 9.25 inches.

Senior Megan Siebem placed third in the discus throw with a best effort of 94 feet, 3 inches. She also placed fifth in the hammer throw.
