Portsmouth High sports pioneers to be honored Saturday

17 individuals, two teams to be inducted in Hall of Fame

PORTSMOUTH — The early trailblazers who put the Portsmouth High School sports program on the map in the 1960s and ’70s will be inducted into the inaugural PHS Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The first inductees — 15 coaches, two championship teams from 1968, an athletic director and an “athletic booster” — will be honored at the Green Valley Country Club, 371 Union St. The event will begin with a cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres at 4:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m. A cash bar will be open.
