Patriots fall in quarterfinals, 52-32

PORTSMOUTH — Despite Portsmouth High’s Lexi Greffen leading all scorers with 16 points, the Patriots girls’ basketball team was eliminated from Division I championship contention by South Kingstown Monday night, 52-32.

Facing the No. 2-seeded Rebels on the road proved to be too much for Portsmouth, which fell behind 33-16 at halftime due to a balanced scoring attack by the Rebels, who hit five of nine 3-pointers before the break.

The Patriots went 10-8 during the regular season in league play, and 15-9 overall. The Rebels, who advanced to face St. Raphael in a semifinal game on Thursday, came into the game with a 16-2 (21-2) overall record.

Also contributing on offense for Portsmouth were Emily Colicci (5 points), Courtney Swider (4), Sarah Amaral and Becca Allder (2 apiece) and Grace Gesmondi (1).

Portsmouth 55, Cranston West 44

The Patriots advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Cranston West, 55-44, on Friday.

Greffen, who finished with 26 points, was the high scorer for that game as well.

She received help from Colicci and Swider (6 points each), Gesmondi (5), Gabrielle Schenck (4), Molly Goulart and Kendall Ferris (3), and Logan Lucenti (2).
