White-sided dolphin washes up in Little Compton

Biologists from the Mystic Aquarium will examine a white-sided dolphin that washed ashore in Little Compton Saturday to determine how it died.

The dolphin was spotted on the beach at Little Pond Cove by beach-goers, who called Mystic to report the find. The animal had apparently expired, and rescuers came out later in the day to load the deceased animal into a van for transport back to the Mystic Aquarium lab, where it will be examined.

There were no noticeable signs of trauma or injuries, and while Mystic crews were able to identify the species, the dolphin's sex was not initially determined.
