Letter: Thanks to all who made ‘Broadway’ show a success

To the editor:

On a cold February night the concert, “Broadway From Then ‘Til Now” was presented at the Portsmouth High School Auditorium by the Dr. Robert A. Davidson Charitable Fund.

The show was directed by Dr. Davidson’s daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Craig Spaner. All other members of the family assisted with the various other tasks needed to successfully succeed in this endeavor.

Many volunteers, including the highly talented performers, helped to make the three hour concert a success. So many people attended the concert or sent generous donations for the cause.

Throughout the history of the show, several thousand dollars have been raised and donated to area charitable causes. To date, for example, $22,500 has been donated to the Portsmouth Public Educational Foundation toward their grant program and $10,000 to the Looking Upwards children’s program. This year we have been able to donate to Portsmouth Educational Foundation, the Looking Upwards children’s program and Little League.

The family is grateful for all who supported us in memory of a great member of the community, Dr. Robert Davidson. We would specifically like to mention Stage Door Dance, Bob Poniatowski, Dr. Roderick Butlin, Brian Medeiros, Jim McGaw and Stagecraft Audio. Thank you all from the Davidson family.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
