EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Neighborhood Day Coalition, in cooperation with the East Providence Affirmative Action/EEO Office, will be hosting their 26th Annual Neighborhood Day Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Onna Moniz-John Park / Central Avenue Playground from 9 a.m. to dusk.
The Neighborhood Day Celebration (NDC) is a collective group of longstanding volunteers, neighbors and families from East Providence that is devoted to the overall improvement of the community and the youth. The NDC reunites every third Saturday of August for the last 25 years at the Onna Moniz/Central Park Playground to host a safe, family friendly and fun filled day of activities starting with the Memorial Walk, Touch a Truck, face painting, field games, Senior Citizen Bingo, the Jamal Jackson Basketball Invitational.
In an effort to promote pride and harmony within the community, the Coalition has worked diligently with city officials, the East Providence Police and Fire Departments. For many years, the Coalition has had support from local businesses like Stop & Shop, Thomsen Foodservice, AB Munroe Dairy and Kavanagh’s Bakery to name a few. The Coalition relies solely on fundraising and on local businesses for donations such as paper goods, hamburgers, hotdogs and juice for the community.
Neighborhood Day Coalition has been endorsing its “Building Community One Brick at a time” Campaign in an effort to raise a sufficient amount funds to purchase the City’s first “Water Park” for the youth. The NDC will be selling bricks to add to the pathway for the unveiling of the new restored Onna Moniz-John Park/Central Avenue Playground to supplement the cost. It is a unique opportunity as a way to celebrate or honor a loved one, advertisement for your business or create a public display of any personalized expression of your choosing.
This is a free event. For more information on donating to the “Building community one brick at time” Campaign or becoming a member of the Neighborhood Day Coalition or looking to volunteer at the event, please email omjcentralpark@gmail.com.
