PORTSMOUTH — Police and EMTs in Portsmouth have called for a helicopter to evacuate a man seriously injured Monday morning in a two-car accident at the Island Park escape bridge in Portsmouth.
The accident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. Details were scant as of 10:30, but Portsmouth first responders called for help from surrounding communities and a helicopter was en route just after 10 a.m.
Dispatchers helping organize the response said the man suffered a bilateral fracture of the fibula and tibia bones in one of his lower legs, and rescuers had applied a tourniquet.
