Capt. Daniel B. Trocki, USN (Ret.), 86, of Middletown, passed away at home on November 9, 2018. He was the husband of Sandra (Wilkinson) Trocki of Middletown.

Daniel was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Joseph Trocki and Stella (Rupinski) Trocki and grew up in Edwardsville, Penn. He received his Master of Law Degree in International Law from George Washington University in 1968. Daniel had a 28-year career as a JAGC Officer in the US Navy, including assignments as Legislative Attorney at the Office of Legislative Affairs for the Department of the Navy in Washington DC, Force Judge Advocate US Submarine Force Atlantic Fleet, Commanding Officer of the Naval Legal Service Office Newport, Instructor at the Naval War College, and Staff Judge Advocate at Naval Air Station Bermuda and later NETC Newport. While first stationed in Newport in the 1960s, he met and married Sandra. After retiring from the Navy in 1989, Dan then began a second career as Director of the International Relations Graduate Program at Salve Regina University, where he taught for 15 years.

Dan was an active man with a great love for the outdoors and sports. Over the years he enjoyed skiing, golf, football, tennis, working in the yard, designing two passive solar homes, adventures in his three VW campers and, in later years, birding with his wife. He served a short time on the board of America Sail, which gave him the opportunity to sail aboard the tall ship Cisne Branco while giving lectures on military justice and human rights to members of the Brazilian Navy. Dan was an avid daily reader of the New York Times. His charm, good humor, appreciation of beauty, keen intellect and spirit of adventure will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra M. Trocki; three daughters, Liisa M. Trocki of Middletown, Kristine S.Trocki and her husband Raymond Ianetta of Jamestown, and Carol Lynn Trocki of Little Compton; and by his grandson Teddy Trocki-Ryba, also of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by four siblings.

A Remembrance of Life ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 200 Turner Road, Middletown. All are welcome.

Memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice or Lifespan Cancer Institute.
