Local candidates show their ‘war chests’ as Election Day approaches

As humorist Will Rogers once said, “Politics has become so expensive that it takes a lot of money even to be defeated.” That's as true today as it was then, and with the election right around the corner, we’ve looked into finance reports to see what several local candidates have on hand.

The following information is limited to funds reported as received between Jan. 1 and Oct 8, 2018. Information includes total donations from individuals and PACs during that period, with names and amounts of contributions from three of the largest PAC donations (where there are three or more, which is not the case with all candidates).

Two of the candidates show open violations for late filings; Mr. Ascencao filed his report, due July 31, a day late on Aug. 1; Ms. Calise filed her report, due Oct. 9, 4 days late on Oct. 13.

House District 69: Susan Donovan (D) vs. Douglas Gablinske (I)
