PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls’ volleyball team’s season ended in disappointment Wednesday when the squad was bumped from the state playoffs by Johnston High at home.
The Patriots had the higher seed and home court advantage, but were shut out three games to none by the Panthers in the Division II preliminary playoff match.
The first game was the tightest, with Johnston winning 25-22. Portsmouth dropped the next two games by scores of 25-17 and 25-18.
Celia von Recum, a junior, had eight aces and four kills for the Patriots.
The Patriots finished the season with a 12-6 record in the division and 12-7 overall.
