PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High varsity girls soccer team is off to a good start in Division II after winning its first two games.

The team shut out North Smithfield, 2-0, during its first home game of the season Tuesday night.

Both goals were scored in the first half. Mollyana McGuire put one in the net about halfway through the half, and then Kaelyn Mahoney scored off a corner kick by Abigail Costa.

The Patriots defeated Lincoln on the road on Friday, Sept. 8, by a score of 4-2. They lost a non-league game to Mt. Hope on Sept. 5, 4-0.

The team is scheduled to host Ponaganset at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22, before hitting the road to play Scituate at 4 p.m. on Sept. 26.
