Portsmouth edges Barrington 8-0 in Injury Fund football game
TIVERTON — Portsmouth High School beat Barrington 8-0 in a two-quarter game at the Injury Fund tournament in Tiverton Thursday night.
Portsmouth quarterback Kyle Bicho directed a drive that started on the Patriots' 35-yard line against Barrington's second-team defense.
Running back Peyton Robinson ran it in from inside the 10-yard line for a 6-0 Patriots lead.
Running backs Dan Correia and Brian Hamilton had big gainers during the drive. The Patriots went up 8-0 when Robinson bobbled the snap during the point-after kick. He quickly picked up the ball and tossed it to Tyree Evans, who jumped into the end zone with 5:40 left in the game.
The Patriots threatened again driving down to the 2-yard line with 10 seconds left. The players called a timeout, hoping to drive it in for another score, but head coach Ryan Moniz called off the dogs and had the team take a knee.
It wasn't all bad for Barrington. The first-team defense stifled the Patriots' offense in the first quarter of the game.
Barrington quarterback Liam McManus and the Eagles' offense moved the ball well against Portsmouth, but were unable to punch it into the end zone.
