PORTSMOUTH — The Statewide Grand Jury has indicted a 23-year-old Portsmouth man on assault and firearms charges, the state attorney general’s office reported Monday.
Tyler Chandler, of 21 Donna St., was indicted on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, five counts of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and one count of carrying a firearm without a license.
The indictment stems from the July 2, 2018 incident in Woonsocket in which Mr. Chandler allegedly fired a gun at several Woonsocket Police officers, with a bullet striking Officer Travis Young in the thigh.
Mr. Chandler, who has been held without bail since his arrest, is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court before Justice Robert D. Krause on Oct. 17, 2018.
