Portsmouth Police arrest driver on drug charge, DWI

PORTSMOUTH — A 68-year-old Newport man was charged Monday, Sept. 11, with possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated (first offense).

Guy W. Gibbs, of 87 Girard Ave., Apt. 316, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. after police responded to the area of West Main Road and the Xtra Mart to check the condition of a driver. 

Mr. Gibbs was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police.

Here are some more highlights from the Portsmouth Police report from over the past week:

Thursday, Sept. 7

Robert S. Perry, 56, of 119B Henry Danis Court, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after his vehicle was involved in an accident on Middle Road around 6:30 a.m.Mr. Perry was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, police said.

Monica J. Beaumont, 38, of 34 Camara Drive, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. at the Middletown Police Department on a Portsmouth warrant for a fraudulent check charge.

Friday, Sept. 8

Eric J. Moreira, 39, of no permanent address, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest on West Main Road at Melville School around 2 a.m.

Jonathan A. Bradshaw, 40, of 40 Mason St., Taunton, Mass., was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated (first offense) and disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest after responding to a report of suspicious activity at Dunkin’ Donuts on West Main Road at about 7:20 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 9

Darren J. Lopes. Jr., 29, of 58 Sterling St., Pawtucket, was charged with driving on a suspended license (second offense) after his vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation on Route 24 North at Sprague Street.

Nelson R. Fernandez, 45, of 56 Columbus Ave., Easton, Mass., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after his vehicle was pulled over for a traffic violation on Route 24 North near Cedar Island at about 1:45 a.m.

Karla L. White, 18, of 29 Ethel Drive, was charged with domestic vandalism with malicious injury to property and domestic disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest after responding to Ethel Drive for a report of disturbing the peace at about 1:45 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

Patrick W. Jamison, 33, of 176 Steamboat Ave., North Kingstown, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after his vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation around 12:25 a.m. on Route 24 North at Boyd’s Lane. Mr. Jamison was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

Jessica M. Bowley, 35, of 24 Cedar Ave., was charged with domestic disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest around 3:35 a.m., after responding to the area of Cedar and Highland avenues to investigate a report of suspicious noises, police said.

Cesar C. Rodriguez, 35, of 23 North Drive, was charged with violating a domestic no-contact order and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty. Mr. Rodriguez was arrested on a warrant in the area of Marine and Cedar avenues shortly after 9 a.m.

Nance M. Rivera, 57, of 306 Winthrop St., Apt. 18, Taunton, Mass., was arrested on bench warrants issued from 2nd and 6th district courts after the vehicle she was in was stopped for a traffic violation around 12:20 p.m. on East Main Road at St. Mary’s Church.
