Officers responded to a Portsmouth home at about 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, to investigate a report of a possible assault in progress, police said.

Upon their arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 59-year-old Portsmouth man, who had visible injuries to the back of his head, according to police.

While interviewing the victim, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, but officers soon located him on Sprague Street.

Police identified the suspect as Shane Alan Cartwright, 39, of 114 Diamond Hill Road, Warwick. He was charged with domestic violence/simple assault and/or battery, first offense; and domestic breaking and entering into a dwelling house without consent.
