Portsmouth's Thrive requests sound variance for Sunday’s event
Public hearing set for Thursday night
PORTSMOUTH — Day three of Country Fest Newport is scheduled to be held at Thrive Coffee House in Island Park on Sunday, Sept. 16.
But first the business needs to get permission from the Town Council.
Thrive, located at 706 Park Ave., is requesting a variance to the sound limits set forth in the town’s noise ordinance to allow the country fest to conclude on the business’ lawn overlooking Blue Bill Cove from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday.
The council has scheduled a public hearing on the request for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road.
In their application for the sound variance, owners Kristen and Brandon Kidd listed “amplified sound” as the reason for the needed variance.
Sunday’s event is already being advertised on Country Fest Newport’s website as well as Thrive’s Facebook page.
The day is being billed as a “waterfront singer/songwriter series” featuring Ben O’Connor, Carolyn Miller, Keith Eric, Tommy Cole and Lauren Davidson.
On July 7, Thrive debuted its Park Avenue Picnic, an event that featured amplified live music and fireworks. About 600 people showed up on the lawn, according to Ms. Kidd.
