Dean Fields w/ Kate Mick

Posted

Over 1000 shows, 10 years, and 200,000 miles have passed since singer-songwriter Dean Fields went on the road to pursue a career in music. During that time his address changed from Richmond, VA to Miami to Boston until most recently settling in Nashville, TN. Influenced by great songwriters like Jim Croce, James Taylor and Lucinda Williams, Dean has blended a mix of alternative folk and Americana to create a sound only unique to him. His natural and melancholy voice stands out from the mix. Truly in his element on stage, Dean is fueled by a single-minded love to perform, sharing the stage with Willie Nelson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, KT Tunstall, Blues Traveler, Rosanne Cash, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Rusted Root, Madeleine Peyroux, among others. His live performances showcase his unassuming yet candid personality; an 'ah shucks' sort of charisma audiences are drawn to. They can’t help but watch, and listen, and be a part of the experiences unfolding in song.

Performing on banjo and voice, Warren, RI-based singer-songwriter Kate Mick will open the show. With influences ranging from obscure 70’s rock to 90’s grunge and 00’s depressive indie rock, Kate’s music is intimate, slightly sweet, dark and evocative.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
