Five DUI arrests over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — Police were busy on local roads over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, responding to 13 vehicle-related erratic driving calls from Saturday to Monday, March 16-18, according to Detective Lt. Michael Arnold.

“This resulted in five driving-under-the influence (DUI) arrests,” he stated in an e-mail. 

Fortunately, no one got hurt. “There were no alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents during this period,” he said.

On Saturday, March 16, police charged four people with DUI in under five hours. The first took place around 4:30 p.m., when Shawn P. Carroll, 28, of 130 Fairwood Drive, Tiverton, was pulled over for a traffic violation on East Main Road at Bradley Terrace.

Also charged with DUI was Brandon A. Bailey, 23, of 44 Spencer Drive, North Kingstown, who was pulled over for a traffic violation on Route 24 North at Turnpike Avenue around 4:45 p.m. He was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

Timothy F. Cabral, 49, of 222 Baker Road, Swansea, was charged with DUI after police responded to the area of Glen Meade Drive and East Main Road around 5:50 p.m. to check the condition of an operator. He was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

At about 9 p.m., Rachel C. Parent, 56, of 26 McCallion St., Swansea, was charged with DUI after police responded to the area of Turnpike Avenue and Freeborn Street around 9 p.m. to check the condition of an operator. She was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

On Sunday, March 17,  Heidi L. Jones, 55, of 2788B East Main Road, was charged with DUI after police responded to the southbound lanes of the Sakonnet River Bridge around 6:50 p.m. to check the condition of an operator. She was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

Thursday, March 7

Gregory S. Mathias, 32, of 3283 East Main Road, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after the vehicle he was in was stopped for a traffic violation on Chase Road at Ann Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

Monday, March 11

Wayne A. Pollard, 66, of 68 Cherokee Drive, was charged with domestic assault (first offense), after police investigated a report of a domestic disturbance at his home around 11:10 a.m.

Tuesday, March 12

Anthony J. Soares, Jr., 42, of 679 Cottage St., New Bedford, was arrested on a bench warrant issued from 6th District Court, after the vehicle he was in was stopped for a traffic violation around 4:45 p.m. on West Main Road at Stringham Road.

Jason A. Truppi, 46, of 25 Redwood St., North Providence, was arrested on a bench warrant issued from 3rd District Court after the vehicle he was in was stopped for a traffic violation on Route 24 North at Boyds Lane around 7:20 p.m.

Thursday, March 14

Barbara R. Laureano, 26, of 220 Sterling St., Fall River, was arrested on a bench warrant issued from 2nd District Court after the vehicle she was in was stopped for a traffic violation on Route 24 South at Boyds Lane around 1:50 a.m.

Thursday, March 14

Yusra S. Khan, 22, of 55 West Main Road, Apt. 4, was charged with shoplifting at Clements’ Marketplace at abut 3:40 p.m.
