An open letter to the R.I. Department of Transportation:
Greetings,
I have not heard back the answers to my previous email.
Based on observation, I am guessing that the work on Route 24 in Portsmouth is patchwork fixing instead of grinding and paving the whole road.
It begs the question: Why do fixes, then grind them all over again?
It is disappointing that some of the fixed areas are no better than the original bumps. This is sad. It smacks of work that we have come to expect in this state. The contractor doing the work is not doing a good job.
Again, I offer you to ride with me so I can point out to you the offending fixes.
It is a shame that a quarter of the tourists to Newport have to endure this stretch of bumpy road. It does not help the reputation. The stretch of road to Newport from Route 1 to the Jamestown Bridge is smooth as silk. The other major approach to Rhode Island’s tourist Mecca should be as well.
Please put some pressure on the contractor to do a good job. There should be a serious quality control effort out there.
Regards,
Ray Berberick
