Middletown man charged with breaking into Portsmouth home

PORTSMOUTH — A 32-year-old Middletown man was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with breaking into an Anthony Road residence late last month.

Jameson P. Hassett, of 34 Rosa Road, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday on a Portsmouth Police warrant charging him with breaking into a house with felonious intent.

According to Portsmouth Detective Lt. Michael Arnold, officers were dispatched to an Anthony Road residence around 9 p.m. on Nov. 25 to investigate a report of a B/E in progress.

“The calling party contacted dispatch stating that a party, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask, was currently inside the residence, after viewing surveillance cameras on a cell phone,” Lt. Arnold stated in a press release.

The caller was not at home at the time, and by the time officers arrived the suspect was gone, Lt. Arnold said. The resident told police than an iPad and a necklace had been taken.

The necklace was recovered from a pawn shop in Fall River on Dec. 3. Police said Mr. Hassett, a former roommate of the victim, had pawned the item.

On Dec. 5, police issued a warrant and on Tuesday morning “the U.S. Marshals Task Force apprehended (Mr. Hassett) at his home in Middletown,” Lt. Arnold stated.

The iPad was later recovered with the assistance of Middletown detectives, he said.
