PORTSMOUTH — More than 700 marijuana edibles that looked like common candy were found in the vehicle of a man arrested for driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning, police said.
David J. Myrick, 47, of 362 River Ave., Apt. 2, Providence, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and possession of marijuana after he was pulled over for a traffic violation around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday.
According to Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold, a police officer had observed a motor vehicle operating in and out of the breakdown lane on Route 24 North in the area of Boyds Land.
Mr. Myrick showed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test, Lt. Arnold stated in a press release.
A search of the vehicle “revealed over 700 pieces of individually wrapped marijuana candies which were marked with names (like) ‘Tangerine Mango,’ ‘Pina Colada,’ ‘Pineapple Pomegranate’ and ‘Tootie Fruity,’” he said.
Some cash and more than 2 ounces of marijuana were also seized during the arrest, Lt. Arnold said.
Mr. Myrick may face additional charges as the state attorney general’s office is reviewing the case, he said.
