Newport Car Museum donates mini electric car to hospital

Posted

PORTSMOUTH — The Newport Car Museum recently delivered the first of two mini electric cars to Hasbro Children’s Hospital as part of its “Fast Five” raffle event.

The hospital’s pediatric rehab team and a young patient named Grayson — who took the sporty red convertible for a test drive — were on hand to receive it.

The cars will allow young patients to “drive” to their treatments or operations for cancer and other illnesses. The museum has committed to purchasing a second car for the hospital with remaining proceeds from ticket sales.

“Fast Five” raffle tickets are $20 and will be sold by the museum (call 401/848-2277 or stop by at 1947 West Main Road) through Sept. 26, when winners of the top three prizes will be announced at the museum’s 7 p.m. showing of “Fast Five.”

The film is the fifth installment in “The Fast and the Furious” movie series. (The same car used in “Fast Five’s” train heist scene is a recent addition to the museum’s collection of 70-plus cars.)

The top prize for the raffle is a ride to lunch in the car with the museum founders. Second prize is the chance to “pop a wheelie” in the museum’s 2019 Dodge Demon, and third prize is a detail job by the museum’s expert detail team.
