Portsmouth High boys play to 1-1 tie with Central Falls

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School boys’ varsity soccer team played to a 1-1 tie at home against Central Falls Monday night. 

The result put the Division I Patriots into a tie for second place with Cumberland with a record of 4-1-1. 

The game stayed scoreless through the first half. Patriots goalkeeper made seven saves during the game. 

Christian McNeilly scored for the Patriots in the second half on an assist by Cam McCarthy.

Central Falls forward Larry Garcia scored to even the contest, assisted by Esteban Osorio.

The Patriots will next host Central High School on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, they travel to Barrington High for a 2 p.m. matchup, followed by a home game against Bishop Hendricken at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
