Portsmouth woman charged with possession of heroin

PORTSMOUTH — A 24-year-old local woman was arrested on drug charges Thursday morning, April 11, after a traffic stop.

Ashley N. Pierce, of 14 3rd St., was charged with possession with intent to deliver a schedule I/II drug, possession of a schedule I, II, III, IV, V drug, and illegal possession of a weapon other than firearms.

At about 10:40 a.m. Thursday,  police observed Ms. Pierce traveling on Route 24 North near Cedar Island and pulled the vehicle over because they had prior knowledge of an active bench warrant for her arrest, according to Deputy Police Chief Michael Arnold.

“During the stop and arrest, approximately 25 grams of heroin, Suboxone, package materials, a scale and brass knuckles were found in the vehicle,” Major Arnold stated in an e-mail.

Ms. Pierce was held on the charges and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning, April 12, in 2nd District Court.
