Procession of Saint Anthony takes place in Portsmouth (photos)

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Portuguese American Citizens Club’s 89th annual Saint Anthony’s Feast culminated Sunday morning with the Procession of Saint Anthony.

The procession began at the club at 10 a.m. and proceeded directly to Saint Anthony’s Church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. 

Portuguese peasant soup will be served to all, free of charge, on the club grounds at noon. The midway opens at noon.

Portuguese music and folk dancing will be followed by the annual auction at 1 p.m..

The Feast began Thursday and featured food, games, rides, a cruise night, live entertainment and fun for all ages.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
