PORTSMOUTH — “Prudence Island: A Fine Summer Resort,” is the topic of a lecture at the Portsmouth Free Public Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12.
Learn about the history of the island from Prudence Island Historical Society board member Joe Bains. He went to school in Prudence Island’s one-room schoolhouse and has been a long-time summer resident of this unique part of Portsmouth.
Mr. Bains has lectured on local history and other topics to numerous groups.
Hear about the early Colonial-era settlements on the island and its lengthy transition from an agricultural community to a summer vacation destination.
The lecture is free but reservations are suggested; call the library at 401/683-9457 to save a space.
