PORTSMOUTH — The Town Council will hold a public workshop Tuesday, Aug. 29, regarding future waste and recycling disposal options available to residents.
The workshop begins at 7 p.m. in the Town Council chambers.
According to Town Administrator Richard A. Rainer Jr., increased costs have given rise to the need to discuss the future of waste disposal in Portsmouth. Some options to be considered include keeping the transfer station as is, transitioning to curbside pickup, adding pay-as-you-throw, or any combination of those options.
The workshop comes on the heels of a town-wide survey which shows residents are generally split between continuing to use the transfer station on Hedly Street and switching to curbside pickup.
The transfer station is operated by J.R. Vinagro Corp., but the company’s current contract extension with the town expires at the end of the year.
