PORTSMOUTH — Something sinister is brewing over at Portsmouth High School, where a small team of actors and technical crew are working tirelessly to put on a production of Edward Albee’s award-winning play, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”
The play, originally published in 1962, features a middle aged couple who invite guests to their home for one exhilarating night of inebriation, sadistic games and spilled secrets. Georgie and Martha (seniors Charlie Silveria and Anabelle Gibson) unravel not only their own dysfunctional relationship, but also the marriage of young couple Nick and Honey (senior Michael Rossi and junior Olivia Brennan).
Performances are at Portsmouth High School, Education Lane, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2. It contains adult content and is for mature audiences. Refreshments will be for sale during both intermissions. General admission is a recommended donation of $5.
Courtney Satterley and Sheli Beck Silveria serve respectively as the director and drama mentor of the production. Courtney attends Portsmouth High School, and is directing the production as her senior project.
All the profits from the show will go to the Kate Grana Music and Arts Association, an organization formed in 2018 to honor the memory of educator Kate Grana and to fund renovations to Portsmouth High School’s auditorium and music suite.
