Mark your dates: The enormous Brayton Point cooling towers are coming down Saturday, April 27.

The towers, built in 2009 at a cost of $600 million, soar 500 feet into the Somerset sky and helped cool water from the now-decommissioned power plant before it was released into Mt. Hope Bay. The property, formerly a coal-fired plant deemed New England's dirtiest by the EPA, was purchased several years ago by Commercial Development Inc., which plans to use the property in support of offshore wind projects. The plan is to implode the towers with explosives.
