EAST PROVIDENCE — The City of East Providence will formally recognize one of its legendary residents Saturday, May 18, when officials and other dignitaries gather to dedicate the skateboard and bike riding apparatus at the Onna Moniz John Park/Central Avenue Playground in honor of the late Kevin “K-Rob” Robinson.

Ceremonies start at noon. A plaque recognizing Mr. Robinson’s contributions will be placed at the site, which was constructed in 2016 with his assistance. The City Council recently approved the naming of the structure in his memory. The East Providence Winterfest Committee arranged for the plaque to be placed at the site.

Mr. Robinson passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. He was 45 years old. He left his wife Robin and their three children. He was a professional BMX bike rider, known for his record-breaking vertical bicycle jumps.

He won several X Games medals, worked as an analyst for ESPN and prior to his passing earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records with a no-handed back-flip on his bicycle in Providence’s Kennedy Plaza in a nationally televised event in August of 2016.

The East Providence native and member of the East Providence Hall of Fame was the president of the K-Rob Foundation. He also engaged as a motivational speaker who visited schools all across the region and shared positive messages with children.
