EAST PROVIDENCE — The annual East Providence Police Department memorial service takes place on Thursday evening, May 18, at its headquarters, the Major Alister McGregor Public Safety Complex.
The ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. The EPPD welcomes the public to attend. Recently deceased officers Richard Frazier and T.J. Britto will be among those recognized during the service.
The event continues a tradition, the origins of which date back to 1962, when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week.
The EPPD headquarters, in fact, is dedicated in the honor of one of its fallen members, Major McGregor, who was tragically shot and killed by a fellow officer while conducting a training exercise in 2001.
