Four EPHS softball players pen collegiate letters of intent
Most of any class in at least 20 years
EAST PROVIDENCE — Four senior members of the East Providence High School softball team penned National Letters of Intent on Tuesday, May 7, to continue their playing careers in college this fall.
Shortstop Emma DaSilva and pitcher/catcher Tanya Cooper both signed to play at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. The NCAA Division III Gulls play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference along with local entries Salve Regina and Roger Williams. Pitcher/infielder Taylor Babcock signed with Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. The Crusaders compete in the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas. Infielder Amaya Dacier signed with St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine. The Monks also compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference along with another area entry Johnson & Wales.
According to EPHS head coach Rob Traverse, the signings represent not only a significant moment for his senior co-captains, but for the program as a whole. In the previous 19 seasons during his tenure, only 10 players total continued their careers at four-year institutions, ranking the Class of 2019 seniors among the most accomplished softball athletes in program history.
