EAST PROVIDENCE — For the second time in as many outings, the Rumford Little League 11-12 Major Baseball Division All-Stars squared off against a cross-city foe late last week in the District 2 Tournament, this time the hosts coming out on top to remain alive in the double-elimination event.
At the Kimberly Rock Complex Friday night, June 30, Rumford defeated East Providence Central by a 7-1 count. Rumford, which was throttled, 13-1, in its previous District 2 by visiting Riverside on June 28, stays alive in the tourney. E.P. Central fell out of the event with the loss. Central lost to Bristol, 15-0, in its tourney opener earlier last week.
The District 2 tourney took a break for the July 4 holiday. Both Riverside and Rumford were slated to return to action Thursday evening, July 6. Riverside hosts Portsmouth in a winners’ bracket contest at the Forbes Street Complex while Rumford travels to Pawtucket to face Pineview in a losers’ bracket outing. First pitch for both games in 5:45 p.m.
