EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Police are seeking a suspect in the attempted robbery of a doughnut shop on Newport Avenue Wednesday morning, Nov. 22.
According to EPPD Detective Lieutenant Raymond Blinn, at 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Honey Dew Donut Shop located at 100 Newport Ave. for a reported armed robbery.
Witnesses told police a male entered the shop wearing a blue ski mask. He brandished a knife and ordered the employees to give him all of the cash. After taking the money from the register, the suspect fled the store and got into an awaiting vehicle located outside the building. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Police describe the suspect as a dark skinned male, possibly Hispanic, with a medium to stocky build. He was approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 in height, had acne on his cheeks, and spoke with a strong accent.
The vehicle, including another occupant, was a silver 2006 Mercury Milan 4 door with Rhode Island registration AT-482. EPPD discovered later the vehicle had been reported stolen in Central Falls the previous day, November 21.
