CRANSTON — The Riverside Middle School boys’s basketball team enjoyed a fine 2018-19 campaign, finishing its regular season with an 8-2 record and qualifying for the state championship tournament where the Vikings advanced to the semifinals before falling to Barrington, 56-44, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Cranston East.

RMS entered the postseason as the fourth seed from the Eastern Division. The Vikings defeated McCourt of Cumberland, the fifth seed from the North, in the opening round, 57-51. RMS then upset the top seed from the Northern Division, Gallagher of Smithfield, 52-47, to reach the Elite Eight where the locals defeated a familiar foe Gaudet of Middletown, the top seed from their Eastern Division, 58-53.

RMS team members included Yusef Abdullah, Xavier Hazard, Isaiah Jean-Louis, Aidan Green, Trey Rezendes III, Kenaz Ochogwu, Matt Garant, Mike Repoza, Jay Gonsalves, Jayden Cadwell, Skyller Garcia and Eddie Turay. Scott Breault was the Vikings’ bead coach.
