The National Weather Service has issued winter weather and small craft advisories as heavy wind gusts and bitter cold are expected to last through much of the day Friday.

Sustained winds of 10-14 mph, with gusts near 25 mph, are creating feel-like temperatuers as low as -5. The heavy winds are creating "hazardous wave conditions to small craft," the advisory reads.

Temperatures will rise slightly Friday afternoon, possibly into the low-20s, but conditions will deteriorate Friday night, with snow beginning around 3 a.m. The flakes will fly through much of Saturday morning, coming to an end around 10 a.m. One to three inches are expected throughout the area, before melting as temperatures rise into the mid-40s Saturday afternoon.

The mercury will continue to rise through Sunday afternoon, reaching the mid-50s before dropping back into the low-20s Sunday night.

The wind has caused some damage around the region Friday morning. Wires fell over Hope Street in Bristol, closing the road for hours. A tree fell on a car on Sowams Road in Barrington. Wires also fell on Tallman Avenue in Portsmouth Thursday afternoon.
