Bristol Police: Road rage, cannon noise, flag dancer, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Aug. 7 and Aug. 13:

Monday, Aug. 7

A Tv was reportedly left in front of a home on Wood Street in violation of a town ordinance. The Department of Public Works was notified.

More illegal dumping was reported on Metacom Avenue,

A caller reported hearing a woman screaming somewhere near Mt. Hope Avenue around 10 p.m. Officers could find no problem.

Tuesday, Aug. 8

A resident on Metacom Avenue called police regarding her daughter’s keys to the mother’s house, and the mother’s desire to have them back. Police took note of the request; it was informational only at that time.

Police dispersed a woman from a home on Wales Drive after a reported fight between a brother and sister around 11 a.m.
Police dispersed several juveniles from the football field at Mt. Hope High School around 3:30 p.m.

A car was reportedly vandalized on Gooding Avenue.

A woman on High Street reported her ex-boyfriend refuses to return her house key. Police filed a report.

A group of juveniles was sent away from behind the Guiteras School on Washington Street around 11:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 9

Officers dispersed suspicious people from the gazebo at Town Common at 1:30 a.m. and from the Mt. Hope boat ramp on Annawamscutt Drive a few minutes later.

A resident on Kickemuit Avenue complained of noise from air cannons used to scare birds away from the crops. Similar complaints are routinely lodged each summer by neighbors of the farm. There is no police action required, however, as farms cannons are exempt from local noise ordinances.

A group of juveniles was reportedly running through yards on Hopeworth Avenue just before midnight. Officers could not locate them.

Thursday, Aug. 10

Officers were unable to locate a road rage suspect who reportedly jumped on the hood of a car after a disagreement with the driver around 1 a.m at Mt. Hope Avenue and Wood Street. The man then fled in a car described as red in color with wood panel backing.

Officers responded to reports of a disorderly woman at the DCYF office on Wood Street. No arrest was made.

A woman on Brookfarm Drive called police “for her intoxicated husband” just after 5 p.m.

A resident on Wilcox Street complained of noise from a nearby farm around 8:30 p.m. Police filed a report.

Officers responded to reports of a fight between a man and a woman on Wood Street at 8:30 p.m. It turned out to be verbal only, and no arrest was made.

Friday, Aug. 11

A suspicious woman was reportedly peering into cars parked on Hope Street just after 1 p.m. She was advised to move along.

The back window of a home on San Francisco Street was reportedly smashed. Police filed a report.

A resident on Pearse Avenue was reportedly burning leaves around 2:30 p.m. in violation of a town ordinance.

Anoter resident complained about the air cannons on a farm near Kickemuit Avenue, this time around 3 p.m.

A woman was reportedly dancing in the middle of Hope and State streets with the flags intended to help pedestrians be seen when they are crossing the road. Officers approached the woman around 8 p.m. and advised her to move along.

Police responded to a possible domestic complaint at a convenience store on Metacom Avenue just after 8 p.m. There was no arrest made, but officers separated those involved, transporting one man to Belvedere Avenue.

A nearby resident complained of noise from a bar on Thames Street just before 10 p.m. Officers advised the bar.

Saturday, Aug. 12

A woman reportedly urinated behind a convenience store on Metacom Avenue at 2 p.m. She was gone when police arrived.

A man and woman reportedly got into an argument at the base of the Mt. Hope Bridge at 3 a.m. before both driving across the bridge into Portsmouth. Officers in that town were notified.

An alarm sounding at Hope and Bradford streets just after 7 a.m. turned out to be an alarm clock sounding in an open window.

Police dispersed a man with a metal detector who was reportedly digging holes on Town Common at 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 13

A reportedly intoxicated man was wandering around Hope and State streets with a bleeding lip at 1:30 a.m. Rescue was called to treat his lip injury.

Officers responded to a fireworks complaint on Robin Drive at 8 p.m. that was unfounded.

A suspicious person was reportedly knocking on the door of a home on Washington Street around 11 p.m. The unwanted guest was gone when police arrived.

Officers investigated “suspicious activity” at the Town Beach on Asylum Road around 11:30 p.m. It turned out to be a softball game that ran late.
