East Providence initiates 'helpline' for seniors, disabled residents

Callers will have more direct access to key departments

EAST PROVIDENCE — Calling it an attempt to fulfill one of his campaign agenda items, Ward 4 Councilor Brian Faria along with city side Information Technology Director Kelly Ahrens announced at the December 19 city council meeting the establishment of a “helpline” for elderly and disabled residents.

If you are elderly or have a disability, you can now call 401-431-7911 to get more direct assistance from key departments.

The phone number will allow older and impaired citizens to have their “non-emergency” concerns, such as snow or tree removal, addressed at a swifter pace.

Both said the helpline will be implemented at no additional cost to the city. Mr. Faria explained it will be “dedicated to assist important members of our community.”

Added Mr. Faria in a follow-up release on the helpline becoming active, "While running for Ward 4 council and walking the ward, this was something I felt would be supportive to these important members of our community and the idea and implementation of this hotline was something that gained hearty support."
