Flash flood warning issued as storms move into Bristol County

A flash flood warning has been issued for most of the East Bay as strong thunderstorms roll into the area Wednesday afternoon.

Heavy — at times, torrential — rain is expected to accompany the storms, along with gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall rates as high as 2 inches per hour are possible. Frequent lightning is expected with the storms, the weather service is forecasting.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m., but a flood watch remains in effect through 9:30 p.m. The warning applies to all of Bristol County. A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding will occur quickly, and could be life threatening for those who try to drive through flooded roads or underpasses. Find alternate routes. Those near small streams should get to higher ground immediately.

The worst of the storms should clear out in the early evening, but scattered thunder storms will remain in the area through about 11 p.m.
