East Providence firefighters run Freaky 5K Road Race

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Firefighters conducted their annual "Freaky 5k" Road Race on Sunday, Oct. 18, near and around Station No. 3 in Rumford.

Paul Savickas was the first of 185 runners to cross the finish line, winning the event in a time of 18 minutes, 22 seconds. Maxwell Augustin was second in 18:31 followed by Kevin Martes in third at 18:45.

Kim Jackson was the women's division winner, placing fourth overall in a time of 19:12. Lindsay Amherst was the second female and sixth overall in 19:20. Kristen Zabbo was the third woman to place, running 19th overall in 21:38.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
