Mrs. Eileen R. (Michael) Guercia, age 86 of Cliff Drive, Bristol, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Manor, Bristol surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Nicola “Nick” Guercia, her husband of 54 years who died in 2000. Born and raised in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Mary E. (Grace) Frey. A resident of Bristol for most of her life, Eileen was a homemaker, and was active for many years in the Bristol County Lions Club, with her late husband. She was an active volunteer for both the March of Dimes and the Miriam Hospital in Providence.
She is survived by two children; Robin M. Perry (Tom) and Nick R. Guercia (Lisa), both of Bristol, four grandchildren, Nikolas Hanuschak, Nicole Bahrenburg (Karl), Melissa Benner (Sean) and Cassandra Guercia, four great grandchildren, Tori, Nikolas, Kayla and Riley Hanuschak. In addition to her husband and mother, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert N. and Richard G. Guercia, a grandson, Erik Hanuschak, and two brothers, William J. Michael and Thomas J. Crohan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth’s Manor South Wing Activity Music Program, 1 Dawn Hill Road, Bristol, RI 02809. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
