Tee off for Buzzards Bay

SouthCoast golfers have an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of golf at a championship course while also helping to clean up pollution in New Bedford Harbor.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition is hosting its annual golf outing at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Bay Club at Mattapoisett. All proceeds from the event will go into a dedicated fund to support projects that stop nitrogen pollution – Buzzards Bay’s largest pollutant – from reaching New Bedford Harbor.

For golfers, it’s a chance to play the private Bay Club’s parkland-style 7,100 yard course, designed by PGA Tour professional Brad Faxon with golf course architect Brad Booth.

“The Golf Outing is a fun way to support a great cause, and we love seeing so many golfers out there participating,” said Buzzards Bay Coalition Vice-President of Development Marc Bellanger.  “We are happy to once again be partnering with the Bay Club on this event. They’ve earned Silver Certification recognition from Audubon International demonstrating that environmental sensitivity and sustainable practices – including fertilizer reduction – are a top priority.”

Golfers can register online, individually or as a foursome.

Not a golfer? You can still enjoy the festivities and support for clean water by signing up for a cooking masterclass at 3 p.m. with renowned chef and PBS personality Annie B. Copps.  You can also attend the cocktail party reception and auction, which will begin at 5 p.m. after the conclusion of play. The reception will feature an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, live music, awards and a live and silent auction, all on the Golf House Restaurant patio overlooking the course.
