Dennis Moniz, 86, Tiverton

Dennis Moniz, 86, of Harris Drive, Tiverton, died Friday, March 24, 2017, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Barbara Ann (Medeiros) Moniz.

Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel and Mary Adeline (Rego) Moniz; he lived in Tiverton for the past 45 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a CPL in Korea. He was an avid bowler, bowling his last perfect game in his late 70’s. He was a talented entertainer, always singing and playing guitar, and was also a huge sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Mr. Moniz worked until the age of 80 and was the former proprietor for many years of the Cleveland House in Newport.After retiring, he was a handyman and “jack of all trades.”

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Cotta and her husband Christopher of Little Compton, Denise Wood and her husband Dana of Little Compton, and Karen Thornsbury and her husband Philip of Tiverton; a sister, Louise Rouge of Raynham, Mass.; two brothers, Armando “Eddy” Moniz of Dartmouth, Mass., and John Moniz of Somerset, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Kelly, David, Dana Jr., Kimberly, Matthew, Kerri and Philip Dennis; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Denise Moniz and Dennis Moniz Jr. and the brother of the late Mary Brazil, Manuel Moniz, Adeline Amaral, Charles Moniz and Evangelina Freitas.

His funeral will be held Friday, March 31, at 8:45 a.m. at the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Little Compton. Interment will be in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Main Road, Tiverton. Calling hours, at Oliveira Funeral Home, will be on Thursday, March 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. www.oliveirafuneralhomes.com
