East Bay softball team wins Seekonk tournament

The East Bay LadyBulldogs, a travel softball team based out of East Bay Baseball Academy in Bristol, recently won the 14u Seekonk Warriors Summer Sizzler Softball Tournament.

The tournament featured 13 teams from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The LadyBulldogs out-scored their opponents 52 to 7 en route to the championship.

The tournament was highlighted by a perfect game pitched by Barrington's Paige Concannon, with 19 strikeouts.

The team consists of eight girls from Barrington, three from Portsmouth and two from Middletown. They are managed by Dave Parkhurst; the coaches are Paul Feather and Ted Grove.

The team will be competing in tournaments for the next three weekends before the season ends.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
