EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Police Department has announced a change to traffic flows at the busy Interstate 195 interchange on Taunton Avenue during peak hours of travel.

Beginning on Wednesday, April 10, those motorists heading eastbound and exiting 195 at Taunton Avenue will no longer be able to turn left at Walnut Street between the hours of 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. According to EPPD, the area will be coned off from the traffic median eastbound past Walnut Street.

In addition, Potter Street at Taunton Avenue will become a “Right Turn Only” option. There will be no way of accessing I-195 West from Potter Street.

According to police, preventing these turns across traffic will hopefully alleviate the congestion and hazards that have been displayed regularly.
