EAST PROVIDENCE — Driving on two of the city's busiest roadways ground to a halt Thursday, July 7, when a pair of accidents took place separately on Taunton and Pawtucket Avenues.

Earlier in the morning, a multi-car collision on Route 44 sent four occupants to the hospital, according to East Providence Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian.

Just after noon time, a single-car accident took place between Taunton and Waterman Avenues on Pawtucket Avenue. Chief Elmasian said the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and collided with a fire hydrant near East Providence High School. The occupant was also taken to hospital.

Chief Elmasian did not elaborate on the injuries and medical condition of those involved.
