Large quilt show all weekend in Portsmouth

Posted

This weekend, Quilters by the Sea will be hosting their 18th Biennial Quilt Show at the Pennfield school in Portsmouth. More than 100 quilts will be displayed hanging upright on racks with room to walk around. Guild members display a range of expertise, from beginners to nationally known, award-winning quilters, whose artistic styles range from traditional heirloom applique and patchwork to art, modern, and collage quilting. This year they will be displaying 22 baby quilts that will be donated to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Women and Infants Hospital at the end of the show. While most of the quilts on display will not be offered for sale, they will be holding a small quilt auction to benefit the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass. More than 30 small masterpieces, made by members of the guild, will be on display.

WHEN: Sat, Sept 30 and Sun, Oct 1 from 10am-4pm

WHERE: Pennfield School, 110 Sandy Point Ave, Portsmouth

PRICING: $8 per ticket

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
